Thomas Heatherwick

Thomas Heatherwick is a British designer and the founder of Heatherwick Studios. An important distinction to make he is not an architect although works closely with and partners with other architects, designers and engineers on his projects. He studied at Manchester Polytechnic and The Royal College of Art. While prolific in his diversity, a common theme runs through his work, how to make the world more human and more joyful with structures that engage and stimulate people and places. Many of his projects can best be described as urban gardens, 1000 Trees, Azabudai Hills and Little Island are all excellent examples. As a multidisciplinary designer it’s difficult to categorize him in to one style or type, it would be fair to call him modern in the ultra contemporary sense with a deep interest in sustainability, how to make our places, homes communities more livable.
