Treehugger has fallen off the planet a bit as a sustainable, eco-friendly online resource, but at one time it was the go to place for environmental news. Having a look back recently, trying to find architectural projects from the not too distant past that were groundbreaking in their sustainability efforts, one article in particular jumped out, 5 Solar-Powered Buildings That Will Forever Change Architecture. Solar of course being the key word here. It’s been an itch we’ve been trying to scratch for a long time, preservation does go hand in hand with sustainable. This article goes all the way back to 2017, so not quite 10 years old, but getting close. It’s interesting to see what people were thinking about, what they thought was groundbreaking and would change architecture forever. And will be even more interesting to look up now how that is all playing out. The obvious suspects are in there, the Apple HQ and the Tesla Gigafactory.
If we want to preserve our past we need to think about the future.
